TODAY’S DAILY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Saving for the Big Change

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

—  Hebrews 13:5

The servant who made wise investments was praised by Jesus in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14–29). Jesus also emphasised the need for preparation and cost-benefit analysis (Luke 14:25-35). These guidelines can serve as useful reminders regarding retirement even though their primary focus is on serving him with all of our hearts. Jesus, however, also advised against hoarding earthly goods in favour of hoarding heavenly goods (Matthew 6:19-20).

What actions should we take as we prepare for retirement? Although planning is wise and beneficial, the key is to be content and put God’s kingdom first, trusting that the Lord will provide for all of our needs—both for this life and, more importantly, for the life to come (see Matthew 6:25-33; Philippians 4:11-13).

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for providing for us in both this life and the next. Help us to be happy and ready to help others who are in need. Amen, in the name of Jesus.
