Diet Change

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Our spiritual life is the same way. You can apply the adage “you are what you eat” to both diets and daily life. Man is what he eats, the philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach metaphorically stated in his essay “Concerning Spiritualism and Materialism.” Our lives will be trivial if we feed our minds trivia. The psalmist acknowledged this as well, saying that if we consume God’s Word, we will be “like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season.

Do you pay attention to the foods you consume each day? Are you consuming ungodly music, reading trashy books, or listening to gossip (in tabloids, on social media, or in conversations)? Or do you consume the life-giving water that is available only through Christ (John 4:13–14; 7:38)?

Jesus, we appreciate you providing us with the living water of your Word. May we continually eat from it and produce fruit for you. Amen, in your name.
